Ode to my Dad #2
My dad is still a cool guy. If you don't believe me, read my entry from Friday December 27, 2002. Still don't believe me? Read this conversation I had with him once:
A funny convo I had with my dad today:
Me: Where were you today?
Dad: I went shopping for an answering machine.
Me: Don't we already have one of those?
Dad: Yes, but it makes loud humming noises. That means it's about to blow up. I thought we'd get a new one.
See. He's funny. He picked me up from the airport Friday. The entire way home we discussed comparative advantage. At first I thought he was quizzing me because I told him I want to major in it. See, my dad doesn't like to volunteer, and he supports that position by informing me that really, by him volunteering, he's HURTING society. It would be better, he says, if he did his own job, because he's good at it, and just gave a fence-builder 10 bucks to build a bench. If everyone did what they were good at instead of the "right thing," which is really the wrong thing, then they wouldn't waste so much time and a guy who's actually good at building fences could have built TWO!
Anyway. He also likes the kid Matt I hang out with because Matt is majoring in accounting. And that's what I'm supposed to major in, because my dad's an accountant and my brother is majoring in accounting. So, based on my dad's logic, if I like to hang out with Matt, then I would like having classes with Matt, ,who's taking accounting classes. That means I'll enjoy accounting classes, since they're with Matt, and eventually I'll want to change my major to accounting. We'll see, Dad.
My dad is fun. He races cars and buys RVs. He wants a pick up truck. He tells really bad jokes, just like me. I like him.

I'm not sure your dad would appreciate you telling us about his cocktail dress adventures...
